Illustration Friday: Missing.

< | >
Colored Pencil, Digital

My first prompt for Illustration Friday was subject based, which made it easy to come up with a composition. I suspected, however, that this week might be concept based--and I was right. I appreciated the challenge so much that I'll be turning this illustration into a painting.

When I read the prompt ("missing"), my first thought was of my husband. From there, the idea evolved to a glass-bodied robot with music box gears, missing the part that allows the music to play. Read into that however you'd like.

Neat concept - because it does allow one to read a lot of things into it. I like how you've done the background, too - kind of a merging of solid boxes with the amorphousness of clouds.

Intriguing image, I've always felt sorry for robots, intelligence is one thing but the heart of the matter is all that matters in the end:)

I love the atmosphere in this picture, it's really oppressive yet beautiful. The contrasting elements are the heart of the image. I think it's going to be a great painting, good luck with it!
